In the wintry afternoon light

Dordrecht is not the place where I was born, but I have been living here now for more than thirty years. Every so often I go and walk through the historic centre with its canals filled with boats, because …

Well, because it is so peaceful here although the busy shopping streets are around the corner. Because I like passing the old houses and imagine how life must have been around here some centuries ago. Because the views over the canals and the marina are captivating. But most of all because of the light!

The light is always changing in harmony with the seasons, the hours and the weather. So every moment here is unique. This photo has been taken at the end of the day when the sun is already setting which is rather early in winter. Then a mysterious golden light embraces this quarter and I wish it would stay like this for ever.
